Preparing to Transition

Hey Sis! As we get closer to the end of 2023, I can't help but to reflect on how wild this year has been, in a good way. So many victories, lessons learned, and challenges, but here we are, still standing strong, despite all that we have been through this year. Take some time for yourself this holiday season. It's easy to get consumed with doing all the holiday things, but we also need a day to reconnect with ourselves to get prepared for the new year. That might look like a self-care day, a cup of tea and a good book, or even meditation and movement. Whatever it is, do it now, before the new year. It will be that much easier to transition from 2022 to 2023. Happy Holidays to you and yours!

What I'm Prioritizing in 2023

Self-care - Between my cross-country move from VA to IN, and losing my job, my selfcare has been a hot mess. Now that things have settled down a ton, I want to incorporate small self-care activities weekly if not daily. I'm going to start with just 10-15 mins of self-care each day.

AM/PM Skincare Routine - 30 is knocking on the door and I still have yet to find a skincare routine that works for me and is simple enough for me to be consistent with. So I'm on the journey to find an AM/PM skincare routine and I will be sharing some new skincare products with you too.

Taking Breaks - I have a bad habit of hyper-focusing on whatever I'm doing, so it can sometimes be difficult for me to take a break. One thing I will be incorporating into my schedule is timers to help me break my focus and actually take a break.

Learning How to Do My Makeup - Just like with skincare, I have never had a real makeup kit or have actually learned how to properly apply makeup. I recently took a 1:1 makeup class and finally learned how to do it all. So you might see me practicing to try to get it right.

Daily Movement - I have been yo-yo-ing with my daily movement all year. Every time I start again, something pops up and derails me. For 2023, I'm beyond ready to get back in action and you are welcome to come along with me on the journey.

What I'm Leaving Behind in 2023

Staying Up Late - I've always been a night owl, like forever. So it's super easy for me to stay up all night. So I'm going to be challenging myself to go to bed by 11:30pm.

Bad Posture - Ever since COVID happened and we were all stuck inside laying around, sitting at the table or couch, slouching and what not, my posture has been absolutely terrible to the point where I've had to go to the chiropractor and acupuncture. My goal is to get my back, neck, and shoulders in better shape and to improve my back posture.

Working From the Bed - This is probably why I have bad posture in the first place. So this is a problem. And... yeah, I have no excuse but to just not do it anymore. As easy as it is to do it, it's causing more problems than good.

-

Alright, let me go write these goals down and print them off so I can remember them lol. I encourage you to think about your goals as well and print them off too. If you want to share yours with me, REPLY back to this email, I'd love to see what you come up with.

Need a Holiday Hairstyle? Try Pipe Cleaner Curls

These pipe cleaner curls are so bomb for any event, date night, holidays, or to change up your daily look. If you haven't tried pipe cleaner curls yet, then this is your sign to try it now! && Yes, you can do pipe cleaner curls on short hair too. It is doable and you do not have to wait until your hair is super long or at a certain length to try this out. Step out of your comfort zone and try something new. I'm showing you step by step how to do it.

Have you used Wrap-A-Loc tools?

No, I havenโ€™t tried them. Pipe cleaners are cheaper and give you the same look. But if youโ€™re worried about damaging your locs then wrap-a-loc provides a damage free way to do the same thing.

Can I do pipe cleaner curls on 4 week old locs?

Ask your sisterlock consultant to see what they recommend. I know that when I first got my sisterlocks installed, my consultant added lock loops the same day to give me some curls. Lock loops might be a better option for brand new locs, but ask just to be safe.
