New YouTube Video on my YouTube Channel @tashaonlock. These pipe cleaner curls are so bomb for any event, date night, holidays, or to change up your daily look. If you haven't tried pipe cleaner curls yet, then this is your sign to try it now! && Yes, you can do pipe cleaner curls on short hair too. It is doable and you do not have to wait until your hair is super long or at a certain length to try this out. Step out of your comfort zone and try something new. I'm showing you step by step how to do it.

I have lint in my sisterlocks, how do I get it out?

First is prevention - try to sleep in a satin bonnet or use a satin pillowcase. If you already have lint, you can try to use a needle to carefully remove the lint if it is easy to get out but if you spend more than 20 seconds picking at it, then you need to stop because you can damage and weaken the loc. Another option is to dye your hair, which I have done to cover up my own lint.

What’s the difference between sisterlocks and microlocks?

The difference is that sisterlocks are a trademarked brand. They have a specific grid and tool that they use during install. Sisterlocks and microlocks both look the same but microlocks can be installed by braids, palm roll, or interlocks. Sisterlocks can only be installed through the sisterlock interlock method. The look is similar but it’s just how they are created that can is different. Sisterlocks can sometimes be more expensive than microlocks and sisterlocks requires a certified sisterlocktician to install them. With microlocks, anyone can do them. Sisterlocks comes with the whole headquarters, the community, and the brand that’s attached to it. Microlocks doesn’t. If you want to be able to say you have sisterlocks to be a part of the sisterlock community, then get sisterlocks. If you don’t really care, then get microlocks.

Can sisterlocks be undone/taken out/removed?

Yes, but it’s a very long and tedious process because they are super tiny. It would be easier if you just cut them off. Because it will take like a few months to comb them out yourself and most locticians prefer not to offer the service of taking out sisterlocks because it’s very expensive and time consuming.

Have you experienced breakage?

Yes, some, primarily from a few of my locs becoming weak or when I was self retightening I accidentally broke some. It’s important to have good nutrition and water intake because a bad diet can cause breakage and also so can medications and stress.

How often is retightening recommended?

It depends. When you first get them, it’s 4 weeks, then as your hair starts locking it goes to 5 weeks or 6 weeks. But depending on how your hair is doing the loctician can determine if you need to stay at 4 weeks or if it’s okay if you go to 6 weeks. Depends on your hair growth rate, if you are experiencing slippage, and other factors.

How much should it cost to start the process for sisterlocks?

The cost for your installation depends on how long your hair is, the density of your hair, the size of your head, your location, the experience of the loctician, etc. Mine was $800 starting with 4 inches of hair back in 2018.

Is it ever difficult to do ponytails because of how many locs you have?

No, I use a Bunzee Band and it helps me to be able to do ponytails without the headache or tension. It does not pull the hair or cause any breakage.

Do you feel like there’s ever too many locs and if it feels heavy?

The only time that I feel heaviness from my locs is when I am washing my own hair in the shower, obviously because of the water weighing it down. Other than that, my hair has never felt heavy.

How long did my install take?

My install took 2 days. We started at 6am each day and finished at 10pm each day.

How many locs do i have?

I have 520 locs. I started out with more, but lost about 10-15 locs over the years (from my own doing).

How much do I pay for a retightening?

Currently, I pay $130 for a wash and a retightening every 5-6 weeks.
